Gentle, Nervous System Centred Chiropractic Care for Children in Ottawa

Safe, proven techniques tailored to your childโ€™s unique needs

Why should I take my child to a pediatric chiropractor?

If your child is struggling with sleep, digestion, focus, or emotional regulation, or if you just have a gut feeling something is "off", youโ€™re not alone, and youโ€™re not imagining it. More and more parents are turning to pediatric chiropractic care because it offers a gentle, drug-free way to support their childโ€™s growing brain and nervous system.

And even if your child is already doing well, chiropractic care can be a powerful, proactive way to support their development, boost resilience, and help them thrive physically, emotionally, and neurologically, especially during periods of rapid growth, stress or change.

A childโ€™s brain experiences its most rapid and critical development during the first four years of life, more than at any other stage. A childโ€™s growth, behaviour, and development are all shaped by how well their nervous system is able to adapt and respond to the world around them.

Neurologically focused chiropractic care helps restore balance and function to the central nervous systemโ€”the brain and spinal cordโ€”which controls every aspect of how a child grows, heals, and adapts. By identifying and gently correcting areas of tension or interference in the spine, chiropractic care supports the bodyโ€™s ability to regulate, process stress, and return to a state of calm and connection.

How Stress Affects Your Childโ€™s Nervous System

Todayโ€™s children are increasingly exposed to high levels of physical, emotional, and chemical stress. While a healthy and adaptable nervous system is designed to manage these stressors, chronic exposure can overwhelm its capacity to adapt. When this threshold is exceeded, the body can get stuck in โ€œfight or flightโ€ modeโ€”a state called sympathetic dominanceโ€”where the brain and body are constantly on high alert. Over time, this stress response can disrupt the vagus nerve, a key part of the system responsible for digestion, sleep, immune function, and emotional regulation.

This can show up in children in a wide range of ways, including:

  • Emotional Outbursts

  • Clothing Sensitivity

  • Sound Sensitivity

  • Sleep Disorders

  • Bed Wetting

  • Movement Disorders (dyspraxia, apraxia)

  • Digestive Issues

  • Behavioural Problems or trouble in school

  • Breathing problems

  • Low Tone

  • Reoccurring Sickness

  • Focus and Concentration Issues

  • Speech Delays

  • Motor Tics

  • Digestive troubles or frequent illness

  • What parents are saying

Dr.Jack creates a very warm, calm, inviting space. My neurodivergent boy is often hesitant about being touched, but Dr.Jack has a great presence and finds a beautiful balance of respecting childrenโ€™s personal space while teaching them how to care for their bodies. (โ€ฆ)

We love going to ChiroHouse and highly recommend the space and practitioners. Their insight technology provides a great way to see you (or your childโ€™s) progress. My boy wasnโ€™t great at communicating his pain at first, but has slowly learned to say what is improving and what still bothers him. His teachers have noticed an improvement within his first month and heโ€™s no longer being sent home from school with headaches.

  • What parents are saying

Weโ€™re incredibly thankful to Dr. Jack Hull for helping our newborn with neck tension and tight legs. She couldnโ€™t turn her head to one side or stretch her legs properly, but after just a few sessions, she became relaxed, happy, and moves freely now.

Dr. Jackโ€™s positivity, professionalism, and gentle approach truly made a difference. Big thanks also to Lauren for her kindness and warm welcome at every visit.

  • What parents are saying

Dr. Jack is fantastic. He is the only doctor Iโ€™ve been to who actually listens to what is going on. He was kind and caring and really took the time to explain to me why I was having these problems and how he was going to help me with them. I also have 2 kids that he was great with. He made them feel comfortable! Cannot recommend Dr. Jack enough!

Frequency Asked Questions about Chiropractic Care for Kids

  • Pediatric chiropractic care is a gentle, non-invasive treatment that focuses on ensuring your childโ€™s nervous system is functioning optimally. It helps promote healthy growth, development, and resilience, addressing issues such as colic, ear infections, digestive problems, and more.

  • Absolutely! We recommend infants get checked as soon as possible after birth to relieve any stress or tension from the birth process. Infant care is gentle and specific, the force can be compared to the force you would us when touching your finger to your eyelid.

  • Yes! Pediatric chiropractic care is completely safe. Ottawa ChiroHouse chiropractors use gentle techniques specifically designed for children, ensuring they receive effective care without discomfort.

  • Research has shown that 10 weeks of chiropractic care can reduce the frequency of bed-wetting. Some kids experienced a 50% reduction in wet nights!

Bed-wetting, also known as nocturnal enuresis, is defined as the involuntary loss of urine at night, in the absence of organic disease, at an age when a child could reasonably be expected to be dry (typically by the age of five). As many as 25% of children may regularly experience bed-wetting.

Despite its prevalence, the exact cause of nocturnal enuresis (bed-wetting) is often unclear. For some children, it may be that they are deep sleepers and unaware that their bladder is full. Another possibility is that the presence of stool may contribute to enuresis by placing pressure on the bladder and reducing its size. In both cases, it seems that the brain isnโ€™t receiving strong enough signals to wake the child up and go to the toilet. Other possible causes include emotional stressor a medical condition such as a bladder infection.

  • The good news is that there is a growing body of research suggesting that babies with colic who receive chiropractic care cry significantly less than those who do not.

In a randomised controlled trial on infants with colic, the babies who received chiropractic care cried for an hour and a half less per day on average after just 10 days, compared to the babies who didnโ€™t receive chiropractic care.

For parents with an infant suffering from colic, the frustration often comes from the fact that the exact cause of infantile colic is unknown, and traditional medical treatments generally donโ€™t provide significant relief. The mainstay of medical care for colic in babies typically involves parental reassurance and support, with the understanding that colic is relatively benign and that most children will likely โ€œgrow out of itโ€.

  • The frequency of chiropractic care depends on your childโ€™s individual needs and health goals. After an initial assessment which includes INSiGHT neurological scans (which assess the state of your childโ€™s nervous system) your chiropractor will create a personalized care plan for your child.
